What
MAKES BARRY A FEAR EXPERT?
Barry possesses a natural intuition that occasionally manifested as extrasensory perception in his youth—a gift he initially mistook for madness. Growing up Jewish in an anti-Semitic community compounded his sense of societal judgment and rejection.
A defining moment came during his very first-time skiing, when paralyzing fear atop a black diamond run necessitated a ski patrol rescue. This experience sparked his lifelong investigation into fear: what is fear, where does it come from, why does everyone experience fear differently, why do we hide it, and why does discussing it remain taboo-despite its relevance to achieving fearlessness.
His journey led through extensive studies in physics, philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, and fitness. He complimented this with certifications in martial arts, esoterics, and skiing. Professionally, Barry built successful ventures in health foods, remodeling, asbestos abatement and business valuation.
40 years ago, he established a consulting practice focused on developing healthier relationships with fear—personal, interpersonal, and organizational. As a PSIA-certified ski instructor for 27 seasons, he helps skiers navigate a fear-laden sport.
Barry uses mountain experiences as metaphors for everyday challenges. His approach treats individuals and organizations as integrated living entities. He assesses where fear manifests, evaluates responses (including denial), and empowers people to face, embrace, and ultimately befriend their fears.
BEYOND THE PROFESSIONAL
Outside of his consulting and speaking engagements, Barry remains an avid skier, constantly honing his understanding of risk assessment, mental fortitude, and the importance of clear communication in challenging situations. This passion for adventure and personal growth informs his work and brings dynamic and relatable energy to his consulting, training and presentations.
